My September Journal page

I have finished my September journal page, entitled “The Harvest Goddess of Abundance and Gratitude”. Only 12 days behind schedule!

She embodies the cycle of the harvest from the birth of the seed to its growth and manifestation to its harvest and production of more seeds to its dormancy to the rebirth of the seed. The cycle spirals on. The sun rises and gives warmth and nurture to the growth of the seed and its harvest. As the Goddess’s harvest progresses, the leaves fall gently through the air all around her. They will return to the earth to nourish the next seeds.

So, this piece represents the abundance of our harvest and gratitude for what has manifested from the seeds we have sown. Acceptance of the natural rhythms of the earth and a turning inward to contemplate how our seeds have grown and manifested in this cycle.

What do you think?

A Start to my September Journal Page

The start of September. Meet the Goddess of the Harvest. She has a sweetly content look on her face because the seeds planted in the springtime are yielding a rich, abundant harvest.

I marbled some gold and black polymer clay in my pasta machine for her body. Her bone face cabochon was purchased years ago at the Whole Bead show in Providence and lovingly added to my stash to await the day it would be part of a creation. The variegated bead hank, purchased on my recent trip to Michigan, was originally intended for a bead crochet project but when I placed it next to the page, I thought it would make simply awesome flowing hair. Muted but rich shades of turquoise, green, brown and cream beads – the photo doesn’t do it justice. I have a whole evening free for beading!

My August Journal Page

A little behind schedule but my August journal page is finally done! This one was a lot more challenging than the first two. They seemed to flow easily whereas I struggled with this page a lot. Maybe because I experienced some challenging health issues for most of the month. That said, I just forged on whenever I hit a difficult patch and didn’t rip anything out.

It is a hodgepodge of beading with a lot going on where my first 2 pages seem more cohesive. Maybe it was because I used tiles created by other artists and each tile had an influence on the beading around it. Anyway, I’m calling this piece “Window to your Imagination”. By using the polymer clay tiles I received at Klay Karma, I arranged them into a window pattern and then embellished that window with my beadwork. A lot of leaves and flowers adorn the window, symbolizing the lushness and fertility of imagination. As August is a month of harvest, this piece also represents the manifestation (harvest) of the ideas (seeds) planted in your imagination. I’ve just started my September page and will post a photo very soon!

My July Journal page

July was a busy month so I am a couple of weeks behind in finishing my July page. I finally finished it today! This month’s page has great meaning to me. It symbolizes the birth of my authentic self. She is peeking out from her protective cocoon/bud. The spirals surrounding her birth symbolize the cyclical nature of life and how we come back to a certain place or life lesson along our journey. Instead of being at the same exact place, however, we have moved up a turn in the spiral and, hopefully, have grown in our experience. The spirals are all shades, tints and tones of purple. Purple is for the wisdom and magic I seek in my life everyday.

Introspective Period

I have been going through a very introspective period lately. Thinking about my work and what I want to say with it. Exploring the connection between what is deep inside of me and what is created by my hands. I write in my journal everyday and sometimes what I write is articulate and in complete sentences. But other times I write just words and snatches of phrases to see where they lead me. I feel myself spiraling down and down deep inside to see what lies there. Like the more ancient myth of Persephone where she goes into the underworld willingly, I am heeding to the call of the voice from deep within the crack of the earth.
